World of Coffee 2026 in Bangkok

Dear Coffee Lovers,

World of Coffee Asia in Bangkok showed one thing very clearly: the future growth of global coffee consumption will be heavily shaped by Asia.

Asia represents almost 60% of the world’s population but still only around 25% of global coffee consumption today. At the same time, coffee demand in Asia is growing roughly three times faster than in many other parts of the world. In China alone, coffee consumption has increased by almost 150% over the past decade.

That gap alone explains the massive long-term growth opportunity ahead for the coffee industry.

What felt particularly exciting this week was the speed of innovation happening across the region. Coffee in Asia is not simply copying Europe or North America - it is creating its own consumption culture and business models.

A few clear trends stood out:

  • explosive growth of cold coffee and ready-to-drink formats
  • coffee concentrates becoming increasingly relevant for convenience and mixology
  • strong fusion between coffee, tea, functional ingredients, and lifestyle beverages
  • younger consumers driving café culture, premiumization, and social consumption occasions
  • digital ecosystems, delivery platforms, and mobile-first customer interaction accelerating market penetration
  • increasing demand for convenience without compromising quality

Countries like China, India, Thailand, Indonesia, Vietnam, Japan and South Korea are evolving rapidly. Each with very different dynamics, but all with enormous, untapped consumption potential.

What also became obvious in Bangkok:

Asia is not only a production region anymore.
It is increasingly becoming one of the most important innovation and consumption engines for global coffee.

Thousands of professionals, roasters, traders, café operators, tech companies, startups, and global brands came together this week and bringing an incredible energy to the industry.

A lot of new ideas.
A lot of new products.
And a strong signal that the global coffee business will look very different over the next 10 years.

A special thank you to Thailand for hosting such a vibrant and inspiring event and for the outstanding hospitality throughout the entire days here in Bangkok.

And thank you to all coffee professionals and coffee lovers from around the world for the open exchange, the conversations, the shared passion, and the willingness to shape the future of coffee together.

Thanks to everyone I met at World of Coffee Asia in Bangkok and to all those shaping what’s next in our industry.
