This week in Tampa, Florida, the global industry met at the AMI Single-Serve Capsules Conference to discuss the future of portioned beverage systems.
In my keynote on “The Future of Coffee Applications”, I shared a perspective shaped by 23 years at Nestlé, working on systems such as NESCAFÉ Dolce Gusto, Starbucks by Nespresso, and NESCAFÉ Farmers Origins.
Capsules fundamentally changed the economics of coffee.
They transformed coffee from a commodity into a high-value, precision beverage platform delivering:
- premium quality
- convenience
- portion control
- scalable margins
In Europe, capsule systems are already deeply established. But in North America, the opportunity remains enormous.

They are infrastructure for the future of beverages. And North America could become the next major growth engine of the capsule economy.
